Cropredy 5 - OUP 1 Oxfordshire Senior League

After last week's defeat ended a six match winning run Cropredy certainly needed some 'bouncebackability' (as the Oxford dictionary says - the capacity to recover quickly from a setback). Danny Fox's men did just that as they defeated former Oxfordshire Senior League champions OUP 5-1 at Williamscot Road on Saturday.

The first half was a thrilling bout of end-to-end football as both sides settled into what was an very open game, a plethora of chances fell the way of the two sides, Cropredy rattled the woodwork three times and OUP also struck the post, as counter attacking football became the theme for the opening 35 minutes. Just before the break it was Cropredy who broke the deadlock, full back James Kite driving forward into the OUP half before threading an excellent ball for Chay Buckingham to latch onto. Buckingham beat the opposition full back before before dispatching the ball past the onrushing keeper to give the home side the lead going into break.

Cropredy continued the second half in the same vein as the latter stages of the first, they doubled their lead after Richard Oakey tapped home at the back post opening his account for the season after Dan Watkin's deep cross. The home side continued to turn up the heat as they added further goals before the hour mark, great link up play down the right flank saw Dan Watkin powerfully finish into the bottom hand corner of the net. Moments later it was 4, Chay Buckingham's cross field ball found Watkin at the back post who controlled the ball before laying it back for Luc Thornton who was in plenty of space to drill the ball home past the hapless OUP keeper. In the 70th minute Cropredy punished their visitors making it 5-0, Chris Horn's through ball found Chay Buckingham in acres of space, the winger raced clear of the OUP defence before he confidently buried the ball beyond the keeper. With 15 minutes to play OUP got themselves a consolation goal after Dan Savin peeled off his marker to head past keeper Kurt Fox.

The win sees Cropredy remain at the top of the OSL Premier Division, they are set for a tricky away trip to Freeland this Saturday.
