Adderbury Park 2 Cropredy 2 AET Adderbury Park win 3-2 on penalties

Holders Adderbury Park knocked Cropredy out of the Oxfordshire Charity Cup on Saturday, but the away side will feel hard done by after dominating large parts of the game.

The local rivals met for the second time this season as Cropredy looked to put to the heavy opening day defeat behind them. Both sides had clear cut chances in the early stages, but some great saves from Adderbury Park keeper Joe Davies denied Cropredy and some wasteful finishing from the home side kept the game goalless. Against the run of play Adderbury Park went ahead in the 30th minute, a defensive mix up saw Josh Gibbins capitalise and play the ball through to Henry Rose who fired the ball past the oncoming Kurt Fox. Just 7 minutes later Cropredy were deservedly level, Chay Buckingham latched onto a clever Dan Watkin pass to lash the ball past Joe Davies to bring the sides level at the interval.

The second half saw Cropredy dominate possession and cope with Adderbury's long balls over the top well. In the 60th minute Dan Reeves was brought down in the penalty box, skipper Jacob Goddard stepped up but saw Joe Davies save his spot kick diving low to his right and palm the ball away. In the 71st minute a rare Adderbury Park attack saw Henry Rose power a header home from Welch's free kick, 2-1. Soon after both sides were reduced to 10 men, Dan Watkin received a straight red for late challenge on Jack Welch. The challenge and the aftermath saw tempers flared, handbags drawn, some big name calling and supporters run from the bar to be involved in the fracas (not spilling a drop of beer mind!). Niall Higgins saw a red card possibly for retaliation and substitute Skidmore's day ended before it even got started as he was given a red for his involvement.

With both sides down to ten men the game opened up as Cropredy looked to get themselves back into it, in the 82nd minute James Kite played a neat one two with substitute Aaron Dineen, Kite was left with just Davies to beat and he calmly placed the ball under the keeper and into the back of the net to bring Cropredy level for the second time in the game.

Extra time was a tense affair yet end to end with some very tired legs but no goals and so it went to penalties, they scored more than we did and progress to the next round. However the result doesn't reflect the performance and Cropredy were the better side throughout and deserved more from the game. Good luck to Adderbury Park in the next round.
