Cropredy remembers a true legend

Sunday saw Cropredy honour one of the clubs true legends, Ken Cherry.

The inaugural Ken Cherry Memorial Cup game gave the club the opportunity to remember Ken a man who gave his all to Cropredy FC as a player, manager, chairman & president.

Two sides built from past & present players graced the hallowed Williamscot Road turf, a Cropredy XI side managed by chairman James Kite took on the Cropredy Legends with Kieran Atherton at the helm for the old boys. Arguably both sides contained Cropredy Legends far too many greats to mention, just one side had a much larger average age count!

Both sides marked the game with an impeccable minutes silence before the game kicked off. The first half saw the XI race into a 3-0, the Legends had their chances to score but just couldn't find the net! A spirited second half come back from the Legends saw the game finish 5-2 (that's 2-2 for the second half if the Legends are reading!)

Sue Cherry presented the winners shield to Cropredy XI captain Freddie Mahon.

Overall a fitting tribute to Ken Cherry, he would of been very proud to see so many Cropredy Legends on display in a game played in great spirits and watched by many.

£466 was raised by players, officials and supporters which will be donated to charity Pancreatic Cancer UK.

A massive THANK YOU to all involved especially some of the players who travelled huge distances to make the game!

We will see you again next year!
